Maryland Infants & Toddlers Program

Family Support & Resource Center
Open to Maryland residents, located in Columbia & Frederick. A statewide support service for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. MSD houses this MSDE resource center to provide any Maryland family (including MSD families), professional, or service agency, support with raising a deaf or hard of hearing child. The center offers information resources, hosts monthly workshops and special events, and coordinates with service agencies statewide.

Parents' Place of Maryland
Open to Maryland residents. Serves ages birth to 26. We help families obtain education and health care services for their children with disabilities; work to improve education and health care for all children; train and inform parents and professionals on a variety of topics; and connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs. Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD)
Open to Maryland residents, located in Columbia & Frederick. The Family Education and Early Childhood Department at the Maryland School for the Deaf provides home visits, early childhood classes, and family workshops and events. All students in the Family Education and Early Childhood Department will have daily opportunities to acquire two languages through ASL and English in Reading and Writing; and enhance their auditory listening skills and spoken English.

A Sound Beginning
Open to all, located in Ellicott City. Provides parent-child groups which meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month (February - May; Sept - December) with two Summer Adventures., in addition to parent education groups, and preschool- and school-age services. This program uses listening and Spoken Language.

The Gateway School at HASA
Open to all, located in Baltimore City. A nonpublic, coeducational K-8 school for children with autism, development disabilities, and communication disorders (including hearing loss). Classroom staff include special educators, paraeducators, and speech language pathologists. This program uses listening and spoken language.

Advocates for Justice and Education, Inc.
Open to residents of DC. Serves ages birth to 26. Advocates for Justice and Education seeks to empower families, youth, and the community to be effective advocates to ensure that children and youth, particularly those who have special needs, receive access to appropriate education and health services. Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES)
Open to all. The Kendall Parent-Infant Program provides a center-based play group that infants and toddlers (with their family members and other caregivers) attend two mornings a week. The program emphasizes the development and acquisition of American Sign Language (ASL) and provides opportunities for families to attend ASL classes and participate in the Shared Reading Project.

The River School Parent-Infant Program
Open to all. Resource for families of children diagnosed with hearing loss, ages birth to three. Parents, along with their infants and toddlers, meet each week for an hour and a half. Parents learn about issues relating to hearing loss and share experiences with other families in similar situations, while the children engage in fun, language-stimulating activities.
